How To Remove A Tire From A Pick Up Truck

Knowing how to remove a tire from your pickup truck is a valuable skill, whether you’re dealing with a flat or performing regular maintenance. The process is straightforward if you follow the right steps and use the proper tools. Here’s a step-by-step guide to safely remove a tire from your pickup truck.

What You’ll Need:

  • Lug wrench or tire iron
  • Jack
  • Jack stands (for safety)
  • Wheel chocks
  • Gloves (optional, but helpful)

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Park on Level Ground
Make sure the truck is on a flat, stable surface. Put the vehicle in park (or in gear if it’s a manual) and engage the parking brake.
  2. Secure the Truck
Place wheel chocks in front of and behind the tires opposite the one you’re removing to prevent the vehicle from rolling.
  3. Loosen the Lug Nuts
Use the lug wrench to slightly loosen (but don’t remove) the lug nuts on the wheel you’re taking off. It’s easier to do this before lifting the truck.
  4. Jack Up the Truck
Position the jack under the manufacturer-recommended lift point, usually behind the front wheel or in front of the rear wheel. Raise the truck until the tire is just off the ground.
  5. Use Jack Stands
Always place jack stands under the truck before working on it. Never rely solely on a jack to hold up your vehicle.
  6. Remove the Lug Nuts and Tire
Fully remove the loosened lug nuts and pull the tire straight off the hub. Be cautious—it may be heavy.

Removing a tire is a manageable task if done carefully, but if you’re unsure or run into issues like stuck lug nuts or rusted rims, it’s best to call a professional.
